Many discrete manufacturers find it difficult to share product quality data throughout the organization. Typically there are many teams at a company responsible for a product’s quality during its life cycle. So this information is stored in lots of different disconnected technologies. Without consistent communication of product quality data to engineering, repeat issues can be inadvertently designed into products, resulting in a high cost of poor quality.

To continuously improve product quality, it’s essential to connect engineering teams with quality information. And with Internet of Things technologies, products themselves can send manufacturers information about their own quality and performance. Analyzing this data and sending learnings about failure rates, failure modes, conditions at the time of failure, can improve root cause analysis and corrective preventive actions closing the loop between engineering teams and their products in the field.

With Windchill 11 PTC introduces connected quality, leveraging ThingWorx technology and Windchill Quality Solutions, quality data from throughout the organization can be centralized in the Windchill interface together with the part and product information it relates to. Connected quality data about a part or product can be viewed in Windchill in context with the engineering data stored in the Bill of Materials. You can log incidents centrally or collect them directly from smart, connected products.

Here you see the sensor data. Whenever it passes a predefined threshold, it's collected as an incident in Windchill Quality Solutions where it can identify field failure rate versus predicted failure rate, collect incident information for root cause analysis and even display sensor data up to and during the time of the failure allowing engineers to identify and prioritize failure modes for corrective preventive actions.

Connected quality in Windchill 11 delivers quality information in context with your products Bill of Materials, including incidents gathered automatically from smart, connected products in the fields. It makes quality issues centrally visible to the engineering team, closing the loop between product design and product performance to drive faster, more complete and more accurate quality improvements.
