Kar, can you tell me a little bit about what makes iROBOT special?
What makes iROBOT special is our users and engineers and all the people that work there really do love our products. We build robots which are by nature very cool, but beyond that we really do help people. We help people overseas, away in Afghanistan and Iraq, and we also help people in their day-to-day chores taking care of their floors and their family.
Can you also tell me about iROBOT’s product development process and how you use Windchill to help you with your process?
So we have a lot of very smart people that are very good at their jobs and my goal as a Windchill Business Analyst is to make it as easy as possible for them to keep solving those problems and tackling those real-world issues. And we use Windchill to allow them to focus on what they are best at. So we let the engineers solve problems and we let operations build those robots that they have designed. So Windchill helps tie all of that together, so communication flows one end to the other. With as little friction as possible.
And what about future initiatives? Can you tell me a little bit about some future product development initiatives you might have?
We’re a consumer-based company for most of our products, so everything is about speed, tempo and cost. So we’ve rolled out the WPA cost module to help us a lot with giving engineers the key cost information early on and then we’re also speeding up our general processes for releasing products from concept all the way to production, and we just released our first smart, connected product, the Roomba 980, so we can now have kind of closed-loop design cycle in understanding how those products are being used by our customers, what features they are using and how we could capitalize on that going forward.
